A standout discussion titled ” The Legacy of Light: Early Muslim Contributions to the Global Spread of Islam” was organized on the second day of its three-day 8th Annual Convention held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center by the Muslim Ummah of North America (MUNA)—the U.S.’s largest expatriate Muslim organization—organized.”

The gathering, running from noon through the evening, drew thousands to reflect on the profound historical, cultural, and intellectual achievements of early Muslims.

Prominent Islamic scholars, including Dr. Mizanur Rahman Azhari—joining virtually—delivered Qur’an-based lectures and tafsir, illuminating how foundational contributions from early Muslims continue to resonate and shape the modern world.

Other notable speakers featured Sheikh Majed Mahmoud, Dr. Mohammad Abu Taleb, and Sheikh Mikaeel Smith, who showcased stories of innovation and shared human heritage.

A moving moment came in the evening with a performance by MUNA’s cultural team: child artists presented Islamic songs, including their new piece, “To Live, We Must Rise; To Avoid Hypocrisy, We Must Change,” which deeply touched attendees.

The convention—under this year’s theme “Torchbearers of Islam in Global Religious Outreach”—began on August 8 with Jumuʿah prayer and is expected to conclude tonight (August 10).

Organizers anticipate over 20,000 attendees from nearly every U.S. states, marking a significant increase in participation over previous years.
