Today is the birth anniversary of Waseqa Ayesha Khan MP, hon’ble State Minister for Finance of People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
She was born on July 16, 1969 in a traditionally glorious Zamindar family at Banshal house of Chandanpura, Chittagong . Her father was Ataur Rahman Khan Qaisar, former Presidium Member of AL , Ambassador to South Korea and Russia while mother was Nilufar Qaisar, former president of Mahila Awami League, Chittagong.
Her great grandfather was a member of Bengal Legislative Council, grandfather a member of Pakistan National Assembly for two terms while her father Ataur Rahman Khan Qaisar was a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan (MNA) in 1970.
She belongs to the fourth generation of her family to work for public service after her great-grandfather.
Wasika Ayesha Khan received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in commerce from the University of Chittagong. Later she received four years Chartered Accountant training.
Wasika Ayesha Khan was a banker by profession. In her prolonged career of 17 years till March 2014, she served with distinction as a Senior Manager at American Express Bank and Standard Chartered Bank.
In 2014, Wasiqa Ayesha Khan was elected Member of Parliament on the nomination of Bangladesh Awami League from 331 female seats-31 seats in the 10th National Parliament.
In the 10th National Parliament, she served as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts. In 2019, Wasiqa Ayesha Khan was elected as a Member of Parliament for the second term on the nomination of Bangladesh Awami League in the 307 female seat-7 seat in the 11th National Parliament.
In the 11th National Parliament, she also successfully served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, and as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Government Accounts and Estimated Accounts.
In 2024, Wasiqa Ayesha Khan was elected a Member of Parliament for the third term on the nomination of Bangladesh Awami League in 347 female seats-47 seats in the 12th National Parliament.
On March 1, 2024, she was sworn in as the State Minister of Finance of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh , a position that she holds to date. In the 132nd Conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, she served as the elected representative of women parliamentarians of Asia-Pacific countries from 2015 to 2018, as a member of the Asian Women Parliamentary Caucus from 2014 to 2023, and as the co-chairman of Climate Parliament Bangladesh from 2019 to 2023.
She is a present member and former joint secretary of Chittagong Rotary Club, a Senate member of Chittagong University.
Wasiqa Ayesha Khan was elected as Finance and Planning Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Central Executive Committee for the first time in 2019 and for the second time in 2022. She successfully served as Member Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Twelfth National Assembly Election Observation Coordination Sub-Committee. She is the former vice-president of Bangladesh Mahila Awami League Central Executive Council.
From 1986 to 1988, she served as the secretary of student hall of Chittagong Government Commerce College Chhatra League. Wasiqa Ayesha Khan got married to Shobhan Mahbub Shahabuddin, son of a noble family of Chunti in Chittagong.
She is mother of one daughter and a son. Her prime purpose is to serve the country following the footsteps of Honorable Prime Minister, People’s Leader and Mother of Humanity Sheikh Hasina.

মামণি আমার, ১৬ জুলাই, ১৯৭১ ইং
তুমি যখন ইনশাল্লাহ পড়তে শিখবে, বুঝতে শিখবে, তখনকার জন্য আজকের এই চিঠি লিখছি। তোমার ছোট্ট বুকে নিশ্চয়ই অনেক অভিমান জমা (…) আব্বু তোমাকে দেখতে কেন আসে না। মা আমার, আব্বু আজ তোমার জন্মদিনে তোমাকে বুকে নিয়ে বুক জুড়াতে পারছে না এই দুঃখ তোমার আব্বুর জীবনেও যাবে না।কী অপরাধে তোমার আব্বু আজ তোমার কাছে আসতে পারে না। তোমাকে কোলে নিয়ে আদর করতে পারে না, তা তুমি বড় হয়ে হয়তো বুঝবে, মা। কারণ আজকের অপরাধ তখন অপরাধ বলে গণ্য হবে না। আজকে এ দেশের জনসাধারণ তোমার আব্বুর মতোই অপরাধী, কারণ তারা নিজেদের অধিকার চেয়েছিল। অপরাধী দেশবরেণ্য নেতা, অপরাধী লেখক, শিল্পী, সাহিত্যিক, সাংবাদিক-এ দেশের সব বুদ্ধিজীবী, কারণ তারা এ দেশকে ভালোবাসে। হানাদারদের কাছে, শোষকদের কাছে এর চেয়ে বড় অপরাধ আর কিছুই নেই। এই অপরাধের শাস্তি মৃত্যুদন্ড। সেই দায় এড়াবার জন্য লাখ লাখ লোক দেশ ত্যাগ করেছে। সেই দায়- এড়াবার জন্য তোমার আব্বুকে গ্রামে গ্রামে, পাহাড়ে-জঙ্গলে ঘুরে বেড়াতে হচ্ছে। তাই আজ বুক ফেটে গেলেও আব্বু এসে তোমাকে কোলে নিয়ে আদর করতে পারছে না।
মনের মণিকোঠায় তোমার সে ছোট্ট মুখখানি সব সময় ভাসে, কল্পনায় তাকে চুমোয় চুমোয় ভরিয়ে দিই। আর তাতেই তোমার আব্বুকে সান্ত¡না পেতে হয়। আম্মু, নামাজ পড়ে প্রত্যেক ওয়াক্তে তোমার জন্য দোয়া করি। আল্লাহ রহমানুর রাহিমের কাছে মোনাজাত করি তিনি যেন তোমার আম্মুকে আর তোমাকে সুস্থ রাখেন, বিপদমুক্ত রাখেন।
মামণি, তোমার আম্মু লিখেছে তুমি নাকি এখন কথা বল। তুমি নাকি বল, আব্বু জয় বাংলা গাইত। ইনশাল্লাহ সেই দিন বেশি দূরে নয় আব্বু আবার তোমাকে জয়বাংলা গেয়ে শোনাবে। যদি আব্বু না থাকি তোমার আম্মু সেদিন তোমাকে জয়বাংলা গেয়ে শোনাবে।তোমার আম্মু আরও লিখেছে, তুমি নাকি তোমাকে পিট্টি লাগালে আম্মুকে বের করে দেবে বলে ভয় দেখাও। তোমার আম্মু না ভীষণ বোকা। খালি তোমার আর আমার জন্য কষ্ট করে।বের করে দিলে দেখো আবার ঠিক ঠিক ফিরে আসবে। আমাদের ছেড়ে থাকতে পারবে না ।
তোমার আম্মু দুঃখ পেলে এখন আর কাউকে বলবে না। একা একা শুধু কাঁদবে। তুমি আদর করে আম্মুকে সান্ত¡না দিও, কেমন? তুমি আমার অনেক অনেক চুমো নিও।
