The government has decided to take action against 64 police officers for their alleged involvement in manipulating the 2018 general elections while they served as superintendents in various districts across the country.
According to sports adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, in a Facebook post on Friday evening, the government will either retire the police superintendents from 64 districts or assign them to the position of officer on special duty (OSD).
On Thursday, Mokhles-ur-Rahman, senior secretary at the Public Administration Ministry, stated that officials with less than 25 years of service will be appointed as OSDs, while those with longer service will be forced to retire.
In the past week, the government has retired 22 deputy commissioners and appointed 33 others as OSDs due to their involvement in the 2014 and 2018 elections, which were widely believed to have been manipulated by the ruling Awami League government.
