Dengue: One dies, 386 hospitalised in 24hrs

One more death was reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 43 this year.

 

During the period, 386 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total caseload to 10,682 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

 

Among the new cases, 163 were reported in Barishal division (out of the city corporation), 19 in Chattogram division (out of the city corporation), 16 in Khulna division (out of the city corporation), eight in Mymensingh division (out of the city corporation), 39 in Rajshahi division (out of the city corporation), 73 in Dhaka division (out of the city corporation), 30 in Dhaka North City Corporation, and 38 in Dhaka South City Corporation.

 

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people.

 

In 2023, as many as 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.

 

The DGHS recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in the same year.
