Sajjad, a notorious criminal wanted in Chattogram, was arrested by police on Saturday night from the Panthapath area in Dhaka.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Deputy Commissioner Amirul Islam confirmed the arrest.
Sajjad, who became a wanted fugitive after threatening a Chattogram police officer in a Facebook Live video on January 30, has been on the run since. CMP placed a bounty on his head shortly after the incident.
He faces charges in 17 cases, including murder, extortion, and illegal possession of firearms. Sajjad is known to control the Bayezid Bostami area of Chattogram with a gang of 15-20 criminals.
He is also accused of being involved in the murders of three sand traders, Masud Kaiser (32), Mohammad Anis (38), and Aftab Uddin Tahsin (26), on August 29 and October 21 last year.
On December 5, during a police raid on a building in Chattogram’s Oxygen Mor area, Sajjad managed to escape after firing on officers, injuring two policemen.
In July of the previous year, Sajjad was arrested in Chattogram’s Chandgaon area but was granted bail the following month after the government’s ouster, along with several other high-profile criminals.
