A violent clash broke out between students of Dhaka City College and Ideal College in the Science Laboratory area of Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on Sunday, due to prior enmity between the two groups.
The incident, which began shortly after 4:15 PM, is still ongoing with intermittent violence. Eyewitnesses reported that around 100 students from Ideal College gathered in front of Dhaka City College, armed with sticks. They started throwing bricks and stones, and even attacked the college sign with sticks. In retaliation, students from City College launched their own counterattacks, leading to a full-fledged clash. The violence caused widespread panic in the area, and traffic on the Mirpur road came to a halt.
Local police attempted to control the situation, but it escalated quickly. Additional officers from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) were deployed at the Science Laboratory area to restore order.
However, the conflict continues, with both sides engaging in chase and counter-chase. As of now, no clear explanation has been provided by either group regarding the exact cause of the confrontation. Several students from both colleges have been injured due to the stone-throwing and stick-wielding. The situation remains tense.
