Chittagong Rotary Center organized a Pitha Festival and Adda at the city’s Kazir Deuri Rotary Center on Saturday last.
Veteran Rotarians MA Awal and his wife Begum Khaleda Awal attended the event as chief guests while first President of the organization Osman Gani Mansur delivered the welcome speech.
Rotarians including Engineer Nikhil Ranjan Das, Dr. Imran Bin Yunus, First President Shakil Mahmud, Khan Ranjan Roy were present as special guests.
In winter, people of rural Bengal enjoy Pitha-Puli festival, which is now on the verge of extinction.
Chittagong Rotary Center organized the Pitha Utsav and Adda 1431 to introduce Bengal’s traditional pitha puli to the new generation.
50-types of pitha variety were available at the festival that was also marked with adda (gossiping) side by side as part of the event.
Rotarians of different ages and professions and their family members joined the festival featuring colorful and delicious pithas.
Among others Rotarian Aftab Uddin Ahmed, Rotarian Engineer Md. Hannan, Rotarian Sudwipat Kumar Chanda, Rotarian Nurul Alam Alam Chowdhury, Islamabad President-Secretary, others Rotarians and dignitaries were present pm the occasion.
Convener Fatema Jebunnesa and Secretary Omar Ali Faisal moderated the programme.
The first place of the awards went to Saad-Bilas, the second place to Rotary Club of Waterfall, and the third to “Thakbe na Thakbe na ekti pitha o” .
Earlier, Tabacchum Akhtar Ahona performed dance at the beginning of the Pitha Utsav.
