Chattogram has experienced heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours, causing waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city.
According to the Patenga Weather Office, 153.6 millimeters of rain was recorded in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday (July 9). Meanwhile, the Ambagan Weather Office reported 110 millimeters of rain between 12pm Tuesday and 12pm Wednesday.
Abdur Rahman, Assistant Meteorologist at the Patenga office, said the rain is due to the active monsoon, which is also affecting other parts of the country.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Chattogram and elsewhere in Bangladesh over the next 24 hours. This may lead to landslides in hilly areas and temporary waterlogging in some places.
Continuous rain has already caused water to accumulate in parts of Chattogram city, including Panchlaish, Kapasgola, Sholokbahar, and Agrabad. Roads in these areas were submerged up to knee level, disrupting traffic and causing suffering for commuters and pedestrians.
