Mohammed Suman, a photojournalist from Chattogram working with the Daily Kalbela, has won first prize in the prestigious ‘Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest’. The award was handed over by Ekaterina Semenova, Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh.
Suman, who has over 10 years of experience in photography, participated in the contest for the second time. His winning photograph, titled “Children of Chittagong are playing on piles of dirt,” captures a group of young boys playing cricket amid ongoing drain renovation work. The image was praised by the Russian Embassy in Dhaka for its powerful storytelling.
Another of Suman’s photographs, “Praying in the Field,” received a Jury Honorable Mention. The image shows a daily laborer offering prayers surrounded by sandbags.
The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest is held annually in memory of Russian photojournalist Andrei Stenin, who died while reporting in eastern Ukraine in 2014. The competition aims to support emerging photographers aged 18 to 33 from around the world, including Bangladesh, in their journey toward professional excellence.
