Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) successfully removed around 10,000 tons of sacrificial animal waste from the city between morning and evening on Eid-ul-Azha, according to Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain.
Speaking Saturday evening, the mayor stated that the cleanup operation had met its targeted timeline. “By 6 PM, approximately 10,000 tons of waste had been removed. We even monitored areas where animal hides were being collected. The waste removal timeline we set was met very satisfactorily,” he said.
Mayor Hossain acknowledged that some residents performed sacrifices later in the day or planned to do so later in the weekend. “We are fully prepared for those cases as well. The public has also cooperated with us in keeping the city clean,” he added.
The mayor mentioned that the city’s central monitoring room was active all day, supervising the waste removal operations in real-time. Earlier in the morning, right after Eid prayers, he visited multiple neighborhoods to inspect the work of CCC’s sanitation teams.
More than 4,200 cleaning personnel were deployed across all 41 wards of the city starting early Saturday. A fleet of 369 vehicles, including drum trucks, was engaged in full-scale waste removal operations. Bleaching powder was sprayed in various areas to neutralize odors and sanitize blood and waste residues.
Chief Sanitation Officer Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed said the cleanup efforts were being closely monitored to ensure efficiency. “We’ve divided the city into smaller zones for quicker waste removal. Every part of the operation is being supervised continuously,” he said.
CCC’s efforts are part of a broader campaign to maintain cleanliness during Eid festivities, which typically generate large volumes of animal waste from ritual sacrifices.
