Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has announced a proposed budget of Tk 2,145.42 crore for the fiscal year 2025–26.
The budget was formally unveiled on Monday at the TIC auditorium in Chattogram. During the session, Dr. Hossain also presented a revised budget of Tk 1,221.96 crore for the 2024–25 fiscal year.
In a politically charged speech, Mayor Hossain referred to his electoral victory in the 2021 city elections, alleging that despite winning, he was denied office due to what he described as “the fascist government’s manipulation.” He claimed to have officially assumed the mayoral role only after the fall of the “illegal Awami fascist regime” during the public uprising of July 2024, following a court order.
“When I took office, the city corporation was burdened with Tk 600 crore in debt,” Hossain said. “In the past eight months, we have repaid Tk 150 crore. I am committed to bringing the debt level to zero. I embrace challenges — they inspire me.”
The budget session was presided over by CCC’s Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, with Acting Chief Accounts Officer Humayun Kabir presenting the detailed budget statement. CCC Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Amin was also present at the event.
The proposed budget is expected to address infrastructure development, public services, and financial stabilization, as the city aims to recover from years of fiscal imbalance and administrative turmoil.
