Achieving independence is not the end, rather nurturing and protecting it is the bigger challenge—said Chattogram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain.
Speaking at a discussion titled “ Shishu-Kishoreder Choke July 24” (July 24 in the eyes of children and teens) organized at Chattogram Press Club on Saturday (23 August), the mayor stated: “A corruption-free, prosperous Bangladesh must be built where patriotism, honesty, humanitarian values, and human rights are truly reflected.”
As the young fighters of our Liberation War sacrificed their lives for independence so also did they risk their lives to build a society free from exploitation and injustice, Shadat added.
But conspiracies against Bangladesh continue to this day. To preserve the spirit of independence, everyone must work together. A prosperous and democratic country cannot be sustained without honesty, patriotism, and social justice”, he observed.
Osman Gani Mansur, editor of The Daily People’s View said, during liberation war and July Uprising, there were literary activities in the forms of songs, essays and dramas but such practices are not visible now after July Movement.
He asked the new generation to focus attention on such cultural activities.
Soroj Ahmed moderated the event while Zahedul Karim Kochi, resident editor of Dainik Amar Desh chaired it. Among others journalist Saleh Noman spoke.
Besides, journalist Wahid Zaman and Shah Newaz Riton were also present.
