CA doesn’t want election: Abbas

BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has said that except for everyone else, only Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus does not want to hold of the national election.

“If the national election is not held by December, the countrymen will make the election happen, otherwise, the country’s geographical integrity will be at risk,” he said while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of the party founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Dhaka on Friday.

He also came down heavily on the chief adviser, now on a state visit to Japan, as Yunus said, only the BNP wants the national election.

“I am with great regret saying that Mir Yunus was defaming the BNP, staying in Japan. Did he feel not a bit ashamed, defaming the country abroad? He (Yunus) said only BNP wants the election, but we want to say only a person does not want the election and he is Dr Yunus,” he said.

The BNP has been demanding that the election be held by December of the current year, as initially announced by the Chief Adviser, however, he later deferred it to June of the next year, Abbas said.

If the government wants to hold the national election by June next year, its desire will never be fulfilled, Abbas said, warning that the election must be held by December this year, otherwise the government will be held responsible to the nation.
