A Chattogram anti-terrorism tribunal has acquitted 25 individuals, including BNP leader and Supreme Court lawyer Shakila Farjana, in a case involving the financing of the terrorist group “Shahid Hamza Brigade” and acts of sabotage.
The ruling was delivered on Monday (March 10) by Judge Mohammad Abu Hannan of the Chattogram Anti-Terrorism Tribunal.
Abdus Sattar Sarwar, the public prosecutor, informed the court that witnesses had failed to appear for a prolonged period, with only one witness testifying. Due to the lack of sufficient evidence to prove the charges against the defendants, the court found them not guilty and acquitted them.
According to the case records, on February 19, 2015, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted an operation at the Madrasa-tul Abu Bakar (R) in Hathazari, during which 12 individuals were arrested.
Shakila Farjana, the daughter of the late Wahidul Alam, a former four-time Member of Parliament from Hathazari, also serves as the joint secretary of the Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum.
This follows another acquittal on January 21, when Shakila and 30 other defendants were cleared of charges in a separate terrorism case related to the Hathazari incident.
