Bangladesh opts to bat in Colombo Test

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first in the second and final Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo on Wednesday.

 

On a traditionally flat SSC surface expected to offer good batting conditions early on, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto chose to put runs on the board.

 

Bangladesh made two changes to their playing XI — Jaker Ali and Hasan Mahmud were left out. It was leanred that Hasan was ruled out deu to injury.

 

Ebadat Hossain making a comeback after a two-year gap while Nahid Rana kept his place. Ebadat last played against Afghanistan back in June 2023.

 

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka made two expected changes ahead of the Colombo Test. Angelo Mathews retired from this format after the Galle Test, while Milan Rathnayake was ruled out due to injury.

 

All-rounder Sonal Dinusha has been handed a debut, while pacer Vishwa Fernando returns to the playing XI.

 

Bangladesh: Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Shadman Islam, Anamul Haque, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Kumar Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Ebadot Hossain, Nahid Rana.

 

Sri Lanka: Dhananjaya de Silva (captain), Pathum Nissanka, Lahiru Udara, Dinesh Chandimal, Sonal Dinusha, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Prabath Jayasuriya, Tharindu Rathnayake, Vishwa Fernando, Asitha Fernando.
