Bangladesh and Kuwait have committed to enhancing their diplomatic, trade, and economic relations, focusing on key areas such as investment, energy, food security, and migrant welfare.
In a meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday, newly appointed Kuwaiti Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ali Tunyan Abdul Wahab Hamadah, met with Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus to discuss strategies for deepening bilateral ties.
Prof. Yunus welcomed the Ambassador and highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two nations. He encouraged greater cooperation in sectors such as halal food, noting the significant global market potential in this area, and urged the inclusion of young people in these initiatives.
The Chief Adviser also invited Kuwaiti investors to explore opportunities within Bangladesh’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and encouraged their participation in the upcoming Bangladesh Investment Summit, scheduled for April 7-9 in Dhaka. “This summit presents a major opportunity for both countries,” he stated.
Ambassador Hamadah expressed Kuwait’s full support for Bangladesh’s Interim Government and emphasized a strong partnership moving forward. Both sides discussed expanding crude oil imports from Kuwait to meet Bangladesh’s growing energy needs and explored the possibility of a joint venture for a crude oil refinery in Bangladesh. Additionally, the Chief Adviser called for collaboration in renewable energy projects.
Prof. Yunus also addressed the welfare of Bangladeshi workers in Kuwait, especially female workers, urging improved working conditions. He acknowledged the strong defense collaboration between the two nations and praised the professionalism of Bangladeshi military personnel in Kuwait.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing economic and diplomatic ties, with Prof. Yunus stating, “Our partnership is built on mutual respect and cooperation, and we are determined to expand collaboration in trade, energy, and beyond.”
