At least 6 prisoners have died while 239 others have fled Kashimpur High Security Central Jail and Kusthia District Jail amid reports of violence in the aftermath of Sheikh Hasina’s fall. 209 inmates have fled Kashimpur High Security Central Jail, Gazipur, while six escapees have been killed by security personnel during the incident. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when inmates revolted inside the facility and managed to escape by scaling the walls, Senior Jail Superintendent Subrata Kumar Bala said on Wednesday afternoon. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in Bangladesh will take oath on Thursday, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said. Businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun, a friend and business associate of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, has been granted bail. A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to Mamun in a loan default case, said his lawyer Jahedul Islam Koel. He will be freed from Kashimpur jail shortly, he said. Mamum was arrested on January 31, 2007 during the military-backed caretaker government’s term, and was in jail since then. There are various cases against him which include extortion, corruption, money laundering and tax evasion.
