BNP’s continued support for the government will be difficult if the government does not announce the roadmap for the national election by December this year, said Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Thursday.

The top priority is now to establish a political government, imbued with the spirit of the July mass upsurge, in a bid to restore the people’s democratic, constitutional, voting and human rights, he said.

“We demand a clear roadmap for the national election to be held in a free, fair and impartial manner by December this year. It should be the main agenda of the interim government,” he said.

Mosharraf came up with the call while addressing a press conference after a standing committee meeting held at the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka this afternoon.

Urging the government to announce a specific election roadmap immediately, he said that as a pro-people political party, BNP will review its political stance on whether it will remain supportive of the government, if the demand is ignored.
