Chattogram Port Authority has undertaken a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at significantly enhancing the port’s capacity and operational efficiency to remain competitive in the global market, said Rear Admiral SM Muniruzzaman, Chairman of Chattogram Port.
Speaking at an event at the port on Thursday, the chairman emphasized the importance of long-term strategic planning to meet the demands of a competitive international logistics landscape. “To thrive in a competitive market, Chattogram Port must enhance its capacity and efficiency. We’ve already implemented several multidimensional plans, and while you’re beginning to see the benefits, more long-term strategies are essential,” he said.
He highlighted that contracts for the Matarbari Deep Sea Port have already been finalized, along with those for the Laldia Container Terminal. International terminal operators such as PSA Singapore and DP World are expected to begin operations soon.
“We hope to finalize contracts with these operators by the end of this year, allowing us to start operations at the Bay Terminal by 2031. Additionally, we aim to launch Matarbari Deep Sea Port’s operations by 2025, InshaAllah,” the chairman stated. Once these terminals are operational, direct shipping routes can be opened, benefiting end consumers and reducing shipping costs, he added.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman visited the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT). They were accompanied by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
