He was laid to rest at his family graveyard at city’s Chandanpura following second janaza after Asar prayers.
He left behind a son, a daughter, numerous relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Ariful Islam Khan was the younger brother of veteran politician Ataur Rahman Khan Kaiser and spouse of Meherunnessa Nizam, younger sister of Alhaj Sarwar Jamal Nizam, MP of Anwara-Karnaphuli constituency..
Noted personalities including Alhaj Sarwar Jamal Nizam MP, economist Dr Zaidi Sattar, Alhaj Muhammad Mohsin, managing director of Sad Musa Group, freedom fighter and former banker Dilip Dasgupta, Professor Narayan Chandra Nath, former chairman of the Chattogram Education Board, Anwara Foundation President Nasir Uddin Ahmad Shah, General Secretary M. Nurul Huda Chowdhury, former president and freedom fighter Abu Taher Mahmud, freedom fighter Raja Mia, writer and researcher Jamal Uddin; and Mohammad Zafar, Advocate Chandan Biswas, journalist Sujit Kumar Das, Nazrul Islam, Sagar Mitra, Muhammad Faruk, Asaduzzaman, Haripada Chowdhury Babul, Jishu Das, Mohammad Hossain and Anisul Karim expressed condolences on his demise.
