Leaders and activists of the local Awami League and Chhatra League launched an attack on the rally stage of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) in Gopalganj.

They vandalized sound systems, microphones, and chairs on the stage and assaulted NCP members present at the rally.

The attack took place at around 1:35 PM on Wednesday (July 16) at the municipal park area in Gopalganj town.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, Mir Md. Sajedur Rahman, confirmed the incident.

Since July 1, the NCP has been conducting a campaign titled “March for Nation Building in July.” As part of this month-long program, the party has held events in several districts, including today’s rally in Gopalganj.

On Tuesday, the party’s verified Facebook page announced this event as “March to Gopalganj – July 16.”

Amid this campaign, a police vehicle was set on fire in the morning. The incident occurred in the Ulipur area of Sadar Upazila, according to OC Mir Md. Sajedur Rahman.

He stated that as part of the NCP’s July campaign, a rally and street meeting were scheduled to be held at the municipal park in Gopalganj town today, with central leaders of the party expected to attend.

To disrupt the rally, supporters of the banned organization Chhatra League, led by its general secretary Ataur Rahman Pial, attacked the police in Ulipur and set a police vehicle on fire. No casualties have been reported yet. Police have reached the scene.
