A festive symbolic marathon was held at the Chattogram District Stadium on Friday (July 18) morning, organized by the Chattogram District Administration to commemorate the July-August Mass Uprising Day. A total of 650 participants from diverse backgrounds took part in the event.

Participants included students, July movement veterans, athletes, youth activists, and members of various social organizations. The marathon began at 7:00 AM, with Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin inaugurating the event by releasing balloons. In his speech, he emphasized the youth’s vital role in promoting democracy, rights, and justice.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Farida Khanom presided over the event, which also included an awards ceremony.

In the women’s category, Sraboni Chowdhury secured first place, followed by Tabassum Sobah and Mosammat Sohana in second and third positions, respectively. In the men’s category, the winners were Musfiqur Rahman (1st), Mohammad Sumon (2nd), and Abu Nasar (3rd).

The district administration congratulated all winners and expressed hope for their future achievements. Twelve brave individuals injured in the 2024 July uprising were honored with commemorative crests, recognizing their sacrifice and courage. All marathon finishers were awarded medals and certificates.

The event was attended by officials from various government departments, including the Deputy Director of Local Government, Additional Deputy Commissioners, District Sports Officer, and other administrative staff.
