Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud called on China to increase its effective role in repatriating nearly 1.3 million Rohingya refugees to their home country Myanmar.
Dr. Hasan Mahmud made this call to Asia’s biggest power China when Liu Jianchao, the Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, who is visiting Bangladesh, went to meet the Foreign Minister at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital on Monday.
During the meeting Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Yao Wen and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present at this time.
On the evef Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming visit to China, Liu Jianchao, the chiness Minister start its four days official visit to Bangladesh on Saturday.
While talking to reporters after the meeting with Liu Jianchao, the head of the international department of the Communist Party of China, the Bangladeshi foreign minister said, to reduce the trade deficit with China, Bangladesh’s major development partner, to increase exports, expand the field of export of medicine, ceramics, leather products, China’s investment growth and infrastructure construction cooperation and other relevant issues were discussed.

Dr. Italian Foreign Secretary Riccardo Guariglia, who is visiting Dhaka, had a courtesy meeting with Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud at the ministry on Monday afternoon.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister recalled Italy’s role as the first Western European country to recognize Bangladesh.
At the same time, Hasan Mahamud welcomed Italy’s Foreign Secretary Riccardo Guariglia, who came to Dhaka to join the ‘co-chair of Italy’s second political consultation with Bangladesh’.
